View Full Version : Anyone know what this is?
I have no idea what this is. As you can see they look like a green bubble almost plastic looking. There is about 4 of them in my tank and the first one I noticed a while ago has gotton bigger. It is about half the size of a dime. Any help would be great:)

Looks like bubble algae to me, try this link (http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-02/hcj/feature/index.php). Whatever you do don't burst it in your tank, they release spores and spread very quickly.
Looks like its the first one on the list. I guess I should try to get it off. It says to use a sharpened screwdriver. But if I break it I'm doomed!!!!!!!!LOL Wish me luck. Wait a minute I wonder if I would be better off taken the hole rock out and removing the bubble then rinsing it with the water i take out for my water change.

I didn't realize it was a bad thing...I would think it would oxygenate your water...?

mynthrax (emerald) crabs eat it.
you can "scrub" it off.
but its not "favorable"
You can simply pluck it off, you don't want to pop the bubble but they aren't that difficult to remove without popping. You may need to use tweezers to get the stem out.

let them get a bit bigger and they pop off really easily with using your fingers!

just wait till it grows a little bigger, then pluck it off with your hands, without popping it of course!

LOL..not favourable at all...should not be scrubbed off as this will allow the pores to spread.... ;)

Haha I have maybe a dozen or two of the bubbles in my tank...It doesn't seem to spread very fast, not nearly as fast as the caulerpa, so I don't get too worked up over it. I might try an emerald crab at some point.
O.K. Cool, I was worried it might over run my tank or something. So I should just wait and then just pluck it off with my hands or tweezers. Sounds easy enough. Thanks for the help all. One more question. Will it ever just go away by its self or do I have to pluck it?
