Hi All,

I was cleaning one of our Breeder Angel tanks today and moved a piece of slate and knocked 90% of the eggs off. They were hidden on the back side of the slate ,I can't figure out how she got them there.

I tried using a Turkey baster to retrieve them but there is way too many, this is a first for us and we will probably leave them and see what happens .

The pair was not happy with me I added a small amount of food and they didn't touch it,now it is laying on the bottom of the tank with all the eggs.

I will have to vacuum the bottom to remove un eaten food and I hate to loose all those eggs in the process. ( what a rookie move):wall:

I added maroxy like I would normally do in a hatch container.

Does anyone have any suggestions

Thanks,

Pops/Pa.:help:

I would try siphoning the food & eggs into a bucket, and let it settle. Once everything has settled pour a majority of water off of the top, then pour the rest into your hatching container. If you keep up on water quality the food that remains shouldn't be an issue until they hatch. After that it's a normal freeswimmer tank cleaning procedure.

What size tank/container are you using for hatching & initial growout? I use anything from a 2.5 to a 10 gallon, depending on the size of the spawn, usually end up using a 5 gallon. A larger hatching container may be an idea, just to minimize any contamination with a larger water volume.

Don't feel bad, sometimes rookie moves have a happy ending. I've been busy with home improvements & other family situations, getting by with bare minimum with the fishroom. I've got half a dozen koi angels with 100% Mellow blood growing out in a 15 high, noticed a little territorial behavior last week with a few. This means a larger tank.

Sure, a pair spawned on the back glass last night, right next to my bbs hatchery, which is probably the busiest area of the fishroom. Time for some creative switchery of fish & tanks!

Thanks,

We are using 29's for single pair breeding, I use large specimen containers to hatch in the winter , they hang on the inside of the tank to keep at 82 degrees and change water every other day . This is working so far so good, We have 100% wild breeders in a separate 55 they are a treat to watch ,we have sun sets, zebras with 25% wild blood line all in all we have 8 pairs ( egg mania).

I sure would like to see pics of you Koi .

Thanks,
Pops/Pa.

I was too late the Angels ate the rest along with their food. I managed to save about 50 eggs. They even cleaned the slate of the remaining eggs. This pair is young so I did expect them to eat the first couple of clutches, at least the bottom of the tank is clean saved me a little work.

I only have 8 grow out tanks set up they are full , we have 5 hatch and maybe they will give me time to set up the 14 /20's I picked up this week.

Thanks again,
Pops /Pa.
