Does anyone know anything about Malawi Cichlids? I currently have a 55 gallon setup, and have purchased a 90 gallon. I currently have small rock as my substrate, but am wanting to switch to sand. Any suggestion on what type of sand to use. I have mostly Mbunas in there now. I will have two emperor 400's as my filters if that makes a difference. Any help would be appreciated.

they have cichlid-type sands, but pool filter sand should be fine.
make sure you have plenty of rockwork.
what's your Ph ? You may want to use a substrate which buffers up.

As Coler said, check your Ph..when I had mine, I used a mix of Cichlid sand and Play sand...the play sand is very cheap, and you have to rinse it ALOT, and I mean ALOT...but at 5$/60lbs well worth in IMO. I just added a small bag of the cichlid sand and the rest play sand...the one bag was enough to keep my pH up and I was fine, but it all depends on your water. There are other ways of raising your pH, but I just stuck with this way.
Good luck, they are wonderful fish and I really miss mine! So post up pics so I can live vicariously through your posts LOL!!
