I plan on getting dwarf puffers...I want two. I know that they can get aggressive, so i plan on getting a bigger tank. Right now I have a 10g that I want to put them in. Will they be ok, or should I go with just one at the moment.

In a 10g with lots of plants & other cover like driftwood, rocks, coconuts, etc, you can have up to 3 DPs.

familiarize yourself on how to sex them(tail stripe on males etc) and get a male/female pair or 1:2 trio. i had a male/female pair in a 1g QT for about 2wks and saw no aggression(although they were small juvies and it was only a temp. tank) before i returned the male.

Im so excited! I was really hoping to able to get more than just one in a tank. It just seems so lonley to be the only one in a tank.:shakehead: Thank you so much for the tip, I will now probably get three. I think one male, two females. But will have to look up information on sexing, so I know what I am looking for at the LFS.

I had 3 tiny DPs in my 10 gal when I started, and they were fine for a long time (2 yrs +). When they are young, they are very hard to sex because the brown line on their underside doesn't show up until they are a little larger. With enuf plants (I used fake) and decorations they will be fine. Good luck.

if they are small they will live happy for a while but long term as adults they are much happier alone and healthier.
i've had them for years and have had to remove the guys getting picked on to their own tank so if you have many tanks and don't mind moving them the get 2 but percentage is they will fight sooner or later, and i dosent always end pretty, my female in a 20long with 3 other girls was fine for over a year but decided that she wanted less roomates and now i've got them everywhere..
