Sounds like a good setup already. If you want to run carbon, my recommendation is a bag of Chemi-Pure. You wouldn't need the "elite" version because your running rowas phos.

Personally, I run 2 bags of Chemi-pure at all times, and change it out once a month. It is definately not required though, just one of those things I have been doing a certain way for years on end, and no ill effects in my tank so I continue to use it.

what is chemi pure is it carbon and phosphate remover?

Does it come in a packet designed for the cubes?

So how long does it last you said you change yours out once a month but really how long should you run it until you need another.

Chemi-Pure is carbon, Chemi-Pure Elite is carbon with phosphate remover. It comes in a small bag that you just rinse and put into the chamber.

The company states it can last up to 6 months. Depending on the size of the tank and bio-load it is debatable. Personally I have a lot of bio-load in my tank, so that is the reason I use 2 bags and change it out monthly. I am sure you can get away with 1 bag and change it out between 30-60 days.
