I have bought these plants at Petco in one of those assorted bulb packets. names listed on the package are Barclaya and Aponogeton but they dont quite look like the pictures that they provided.
I am very impresed as most of them have sprouted and are looking good at least for now. not a bad deal for $6.

Please let me know what you think.

The green one is Aponogeton crispus. The pink one is some sort of lotus, don't know exact species name.

any other thoughts on the pink one??? its still a juvenile.
the only lotus I am finding online that resembles this one is Nymphaea pubescens.

is that what it is?

they grow real quick, plenty of ferts needed, man they suck them up...could be why your getting brown spots on the swords...

what's your lighting, co2 and dosing regime?

consider this:

1wpg, no CO2, flourish once a week (I was told overdosing that may cause an algea outbreak in my current setup)

would it make sense to use the EI approach in my tank until I get the better lighting?

any chance you can up your lighting?

I will be starting the DIY project for the new hood that will give me about 2.5wpg. I hope to have it completed in 2 weeks.
I do realize that my poor lighting is holding my plants back.

it is a red tiger lotus. i got mine from the same type of bulb combos. i think your tank needs higher lighting. im glad everything has grown well to this point.

I know it does, jaysen. thats at the very top of my list.

tiger lotus you say?
do all lotuses require same care? or are there differences?

There's no real reason to do the EI dosing unless you have higher lighting (your diy project will up that) and using co2. Once you up your lighting you will probably want to use co2 as that will help the plant growth and combat the algae growth the higher lighting can bring.

i agree, and at 2.5wpg your going to need pressurised co2 as well as a good dosing regime.

i like ei dosing because it is simple and effective, as well as being easy to adjust. it also fits in with my maintenance regimes - i do 50% pwc on all my tanks anyway. if this puts you off you can go pmdd dosing.

I can adjust the lighting accordingly. at what wpg will I be able to get away with no pressurized CO2.
the plan is to use screw in CFLs (26W each), does that make a difference also? I heard they are not as efficient.
