Would a 36" light look right on a 48" tank?

I may have found a great deal on a 36" coralife deluxe pc light. (96x2 w/lunars) for $65 but my tank is a 48" tank (55g) with glass top. I was wondering how werid would it look, would you really notice the dark areas?. I'm planning on having some med light plants in the tank. Thanks Zach

It would depend on what you are keeping....

I have two simple 36" lights on a 6 foot 135 gal discuss tank. I wanted low lighting and the dark recesses.

Those dark edges would be noticable. Unless you have some creative scaping plan like RB you are probably better off paying more for a 48 inch unit.

Well with 200 watts of light the tank would be quite bright correct so the darker areas may not be all that noticable during the day right? Plus i could put lower light plants there or it could be my hide out for my syndontis during the day. Is $65 a good deal for a Coralife PC 96x2 with lunars?

I dont think the 3 foot lights will be a problem, especially because of the high wattage. I use 2 36" fixtures on my 8 foot tank, and all the light is evenly spread out. Its not even noticeable.

buy the coralife legs that lift the fixture off the glass. that will help spread the light more evenly.
