hey everybody,
i am starting to "silent cycle" a 10 gallon tank.(just planted today) The bulbs that came with the hood are (2) 15 watt incandescent. i was wondering if anyone has used the energy smart bulbs (CFL) that claim 13w=60w incandescent. Using 2.5w per gallon as a rule of thumb, will this 26w be ok or is this way too much light? Please let me know.

Incandescent lights put out way more heat than light and are primarily useless. The wpg that most people use is based on the fluorescent's output. if you use the 13w cfls you'll have a total of 26 watts, 2.6 wpg which is just fine.

Always switch out incandescent for CFLs.

The two 25 watt 6500k CFL's will work great. Make sure they are 5500k or above. Home Depot sells 5500k, Wal-Mart sells 6500k
