I set up a Diy CO2 system last night.... I was wondering how long it takes to get bubbles?????

It does depend, but mostly I find that I start getting bubbles anywhere from 2-10 hours from setup. It will happen slower if the mixture is relatively chilly.

1.5 cups of water??
Whats your bottle size?
if its 2L do
5-6cups water (warm)
1.5cups sugar
1/4 teaspoons of yeast (hydrate prior to adding)
1 teaspoon of baking soda

you should see bubbling after 12 hrs.. if nothing happens after 24 either the mix is wrong (bad yeast) or theres a leak.

If you've got sort of a brown foam at the top of the liquid, but still arn't getting bubbles, you probably have a leak in your system. If no foam, probably the yeast is bad.

I am using a 32 oz gatorade bottle. It actually hold pressure quite well( I was supprised). I mixed up another bottle about an hour - 2 hrs ago i'm getting one bubble every two or three minutes. that should increase right?

I did not use baking soda because my water is so hard i read something that says something to the effect that you don't need to add baking soda with high hardness. the baking soda buffers the water and stabalizes it right?

baking soda is supposed to stabilize the sugar consumption so that ethanol does not build up so fast to kill the yeast ( i think)

How big is the tank??
for 32oz i would still use
1 cup sugar
3 cups water
1/8 teaspoon of yeast
and some baking soda.. (if you want lol)

Out of all the times i did it i never got foam. The mix turns pink after 3-4 weeks. Let it stand for an extra week and no need to go to the bar.. I took a sip of it wow it has a good alcohol kick to it..

Huh, I get a light brown foam at the top of the water every time. I'll agree about not having to go to the bar though :) although you may want a breath mint after....:silly:
