A heater will keep a steady heat. If you don't have one, your tank temp will drop drastically at night when you turn your lights off.

So you are willing to run the risk of having them rot away in your tank? There isn't much we will be able to tell you about what they require without knowing what they are. Are you able to post pics?

they will be fine in an unheated tank, but they will grow much more slowly. i have several lilies and aponogetons from walmart bulbs and while all of them will probably not sprout, the ones that do are pretty tough little plants. i keep them heated though.

Well it's been forever but I have had4 of the bulbs grow. I have been putting liquid carbon in the water and it's been working good. About every 2 months or so I have had a new bulb start.
