Hello,

So after much thinking I've decided to take my Red Hairy legged hermit and put him in a 10g tank of it's own. It's been attacking my starfish and eating my new Codium plant. I don't want to get rid of my hermit because it's so beautiful and cool to watch. I have had an empty 10g tank for quite awhile so I've decided to get that running since it's a lot cheaper then starting from scratch and getting a 20g or something. I don't really have the time or the money for that right now, plus I already have a 75g set-up. My questions are; what other things can I put in there? I'd like to make it a hermit & shrimp tank only, but wondering what other kinds of hermits will get along with the red hairy legged? Also, what is a 'nano' tank? I've heard people reference a 'nano' but I don't know what the means.

Thanks for the help!

Nano to some refers to a SW tank less than 30g. Some consider it to be less than 20g. I'll leave the hermit question for someone else but have you had any issues with your 2 chocolate chip stars eating things you don't want them to? They aren't known for being reef safe themselves.

Recently I have started to see why Grins doesn't like hermits so much. I took 3 out of my main tank and put them into my 10G frag tank and they are always knocking over the frags. Had to take them out because of that. In my main tank where most of the corals are fixed to rock it isn't really an issue, but in a small tank with frags they are a nightmare.

Red hairy if I am not mistaken get VERY big and I have seen them catch/eat fish. I think that was what mine was in this picture. I had him in my 55G FO tank that I feed feeder fish too and it would catch a goldfish feeder at least once a week with its claw up in the air. This was many years ago though. That shell is about as big as a closed fist.
