I have extra media baskets for my emperors and bought amonia chips. made the mistake instead of charcoal.:wall: can I use this as a media in the baskets? or is this a no no in my plated tanks?

I wouldn't use it everyday, but it could be useful in some situations, like an ammonia spike.

I have never had amonia spikes. I do to many water changes

I was just looking for extra media, something for the baskets.

Just use more mechanical media for the baskets, like floss or sponge. Ammonia remover (as well as charcoal/carbon) is really a situational media than an everyday one.

the ammoina chips are going to eat up the ammoina in the water before it can get to your bacteria. it may pose a problem when they stop working also.

If you are looking for extra media i would recommend ceramic rings. I load my baskets up with Biolife Biohexnodes. Superb for increasing surface area in the filter for bacteria to live on.

Personally i'd toss a sponge of some sort in. I like to chop up aquaclear sponges as they're nice and cheap.
