auto top off placement

so perhaps this is a stupid question but on thursday i'll finally be setting up the refugium ive always wanted. i have an auto top off system in my tank now and was wondering if when i get my fuge running do i leave the top off in the tank or move it down to the fuge. or does it not matter either way. id like to put it in my fuge and get the cluster of nonsense out of my display tank.
 
well the auto top off needs to go where the water fluctuates
so that depends on the fuge
 
my fuge is designed like this:

which leads me to believe that the fuge level will stay the same all the time and i need to put my ATO in my display... correct? man i feel dumb :wall:

Put it in your out part of the sump! the fuge will remain the same height always your out put will be the one that drops to put it there!

I agree. The out / return section of the sump is where you'll notice changes in water level. That's where the ATO sensor should be.
