It was recommended to me to get some plants, horntwort or cabomba, to help my tank kill off some ammonia. I currently have a 17W light, and was wondering if that would be enough light for the plants to survive? Also, any additional info into plant care that I may need to know would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hornwort will grow with just about any lighting. Cabomba is pickier. What kind of 17W light is it?

Eclipse Natural Daylight - 120VAC, 60HZ, 17W
It came with the tank/hood.

I'm not familiar with that set-up: is that an incandescent or fluorescent lamp? You can look at my .sig for plants I have. Both bacopa and wisteria are good at sucking up nutrients, and I think they'd do OK at 1.7 wpg, but I don't think they'd grow too fast. You might also need some sort of fertilizer (Seachem's Flourish, for example) to feed them.

That is enough light for low light plants.

What should I do about CO2? It's a 10g tank. Will the fish give off enough CO2 or should I invest in a pump? I found these at PetSmart, does anyone know if they are any good? I'd rather buy one than DIY, but only if its worth it.

I have a few other LFS around, so let me know if there's a better product out there to get. Thanks, really appreciate the help.

The hagen is better. You could do DIY co2 for a 10 cheap 2 liter bottle air line a check valve and an air stone.
