Hi Friends !

I was planning to create a background by using Hornwort strands weighted by Ceramic Cylinders. Just wanted to get some advice / opinions if it will be good and balanced.

Kindly advice...
Thanks and Regards

I have hornwort, I've tried weighting it down, but usually a piece of it comes loose and it ends up like a giant tumbleweed that takes up one end of my tank. I'm getting rid of it as soon as I find a suitable replacement. I like it for fry tanks, tired of it for display tanks.

i try and try to weight it down but it ends up breaking loose and floating. i would go with foxtail instead.

i agree you are probably going to be frustrated trying to force the hornwart to grow in one place, whatever method you choose.

In my experience hornwort does best when left alone to float around the tank.

I agree with what everyone has said about hornwort. I have some as a background plant for now and it does look nice, but it grows out of control and will break off....I have tons of it floating at the moment. I want to replace it with Vallisneria gigantea, but not sure how that would do with just sand.

vals will do fine in sand

I figured, my corkscrew vals are growing very well, just figured that giant vals would require more of a nutrient rich substrate.

sorry to get off topic but they should be fine just like the vals you could always add root tabs.

I use hornwort for my background corner plants. It works wonders if you put the weight in the middle of the hornwort strand. It creates a "bushy" effect to the plant and it grows very nicely, nor will any of the strands fall off the weight.

Line the hornwort up, place the weight tie in the middle of it and drop it in the back. Bam, you just made a nice background!

I remember being exited when I finally got hornwort to grow. Now it's good for raising fry, but trying my hand at different plants.
