I have brand new snails ( apple in this tank :( what do I do, and I need help!!
I added pimafix and also melafix,
I just put new filters on the tank 1 week ago, I will remove them ( they have charcoal. what can I do? is all lost???

Place him in a spare tank, and do WC's on the main tank to get the meds out. Only treat with pimafix, as you shouldn't mix meds, and it is the only one of the two that is made to remove fungus. Only treat the main tank if it shows up there. Keep in mind these meds could hurt your snail, too.

no spare tank,:(
I read where it says to treat the whole tank as this is very contagious.

According to API, Pimafix and Melafix work well together and compliment each-other. The ingredients aren't, that I'm aware of, specifically toxic to inverts. There may be no *need* to use both, but according to API using both is "good".

I don't know if you'll have success treating it. Good luck.

Firstly, some meds can be mixed and others can not. There is no automatic rule.

Secondly, there are two type of disease which could fit this description. One is true fungus for which I normally use Maroxy to treat. Any good anti-fungal med should work fine, However, if it is columnaris, aka cottonmouth, then it is a bacterial infection against which anti-fungals are useless. Maracyn (or generic EM) have always worked well for me in treating this.

Mouth Fungus

Symptoms: White cottony patches around the mouth.

Mouth Fungus is so called because it looks like a fungus attack of the mouth. It is actually caused from the bacterium Chondrococcus columnaris. It shows up first as a gray or white line around the lips and later as short tufts sprouting from the mouth like fungus. The toxins produced and the inability to eat will be fatal unless treated at an early stage.

can I add maracyn to the already treated tank ( pimafix/melafix)

if you use maracyn stop use of other meds(pima/melafix)
maracyn will is an antibiotic and you shouldn't need the other two.

it's best to move the infected fish to a hospital tank..and treat the smaller hosp set up, saves you money too. they are set up to dose a 10 g set up I believe.

Don't use maracyn with the snails in the tank. Only maracyn plus is invert safe, although may not be effective for what you are treating. Anyway you could stick a breeder box on a different tank to house the snails while you are treating?

ok, thats a great idea, I am going to try to move the snails tonight and go tomorrow and get maracyn for the tank. I assume the whole tank is infected right? so treating the whole tank is in order. 3 of them look sick, not moving much . the other 2 are moving around well.

I would be tempted to treat the whole tank. Keep a close eye on your biofilter as maracyn can often compromise your beneficial bacteria (at least in my experience, I had a three day spike after using it).

I feel so bad. I always do water changes and , thats one thing I am good at. but I did find some bad food in the tank, and I over fed. :( I can not believe my little cories are sick. this makes me so sad.
I took the fish with the cotton stuff on his mouth out and took it off him. it came right off and it felt hard

If you know there was uneaten food in the water, potentially polluting it, daily water changes can go a very long way to fixing the issue. I always recommend daily changes before meds are added each day. The directions don't say to do it, but it definitely can't hurt and in many cases can make all of the difference in the world. IMO, kanamyacin and other broad spectrum antibiotics work better than the ones that treat only gram positive or gram negative bacteria. Cories are prone to mouth rot and fungus, but they also have a good survivability rating for it, if you catch it early and treat it aggressively and keep the water quality optimal. Good luck with your little guys.
