My tiny holding Demasoni has been holding for about 15 days now, she has been in a 10g for about a week and I noticed today her mouth is more open. I have a cave in there for her so she pops out every once in a while and just now I saw a little fry pop out of her mouth and free swim for about 3 seconds before she sucked it back in.

Should I take the cave out? I don't want to strip her cause its her first time and she is so small. Is there anything that will entice her to release them?

Time.

She'll release the fry when she senses they're capable of independence ('free swimming') and that the environment is secure enough for them. The cave provides that security, I recommend keeping it in place. During a limited time mothers, as an act of protection, are capable of 'reclaiming' the fry (and recollect any 'escapees').

Thanks KB. I can always count on a response from you! I will let her be, I was planning on leaving her in there for about a day to feed her before putting her back in the community and moving the next mom-to-be over. Does that sound right?

What day of holding is the 2nd female on? You could keep the first mother in the maternity tank until the 2nd mother reaches day 14 and then swap them out.

She's about 2 days behind the first, so it will be a day or so before I swap the two. Still nothing today, but I feel good about the fact that I saw one come out and swim for a few seconds!
