Shrimp query-- what kind of shrimp is this?

So up until recently I was under the impression that I only had amano shrimp in my tank (how many was a tougher question, since I knew my angel had made a snack out of a few when they were still small). Anyhow, now that they are bigger they venture out quite regularly, and I've noticed that two of them no longer look anything like amano shrimp. They are significantly larger than the others, and have turned a deep black-red, with a light pinky/red stripe down their top. Unless this is something amano shrimp morph into, I'm thinking these are a different species... only I've had no luck finding a pic (and these two manage to stay well enough hidden that taking a photo is proving tricky). Anyone have any guesses?

One of them is so big that we've nicknamed him "Prawn" ;)

try luring them out with food or a net for a pic. cant really tell what it is by description. sounds very kool though. have you checked it they are breeding at all?

I'll see if I can lure Prawn out tonight and get a decent pic... I've got the camera by the tank so I remember when I get home from work!

Sounds like bamboo shrimp. Do they have fan-looking things on the end of their legs that they hold open?

ct.. thanks for the link, that's a great one. I couldn't find one that seems to match... but maybe my pattern-matching skills are wussy :-)

Here's a couple pics of the not-so-little fella... I apologize for the low-qual... he obligingly came out and nicked the half-tablet I dropped in (you can seem him holding it in the second pic), but that didn't offset the poor user component when it comes to cameras :D

He's as big as one of my cories, and in fact scared off the cory to win the tablet! (For those of you following along at home, the cories regrouped and staged a successful recovery attack... Very amusing!)

Maybe he's just a really dark amano... but he really does look *completely* different (which hopefully these pics show).

Any other theories? Or does anyone want to confirm my suspicion that it's not an amano shrimp? :)

mszumins... yeah, the focus thing is such a pain. As far as I understand it, point and clicks work on the basis of contrast.. they will auto focus on the area of highest contrast... which when taking close ups of fishies etc can mean wacky focus!

Haha! 2 year-olds are great like that.

I really love the look of green carpets, in fact. I just can't wait to get a bigger tank so that I get some proper lighting in there and really see what I can do. I'm just so inspired by the some of the amazing green tanks here!

So I have perused 100s of pics of shrimp now, and I did manage to find a pic of what was labeled as an amano shrimp, and it's top have of it's body had colouring like mine. So I'm supposing mine is just a really strange variant! Very cool, though... I like.
