I have a moderately planted 65g with about 1.7 Watts/gallon. GH is 11 and KH is 6. No ammonia, no nitrites, 10-20 ppm nitrates.
I change 15% of my water weekly. Plants are vallisneria spiralis, hygrophila polysperma, Ceratopteris cornuta and duckweed.
The tap water has the following parameters :
pH 7.50
K+ 1.54 mg/l
Ca++ 57.20 mg/l
Mg++ 5.65 mg/l
Fe 0.06 mg/l
Cl- 32.12 mg/l
SO4-- 87.30 mg/l
NO3- 20.50 mg/l
HCO3- 253.76 mg/l
PO4- 0.04 mg/l
As I don't regularly add extra fertilizers to the tank, I assume that the K+, Mg++ and Fe in the tank will be too low. I was thinking of adding a commercial Fe-fertilizer combined with K2SO4. I calculated on another website that I should try to get 15-20 ppm of K+ in my tank. So I dissolved 400g K2SO4/l and will be adding about 15 to 20 ml each week.
As my light levels are rather low, I don't plan on adding CO2. Would addition of K/Mg help my plants grow better (not that they do very bad now!) or would it only promote algae growth ?
