How long to leave in QT/Hospital tank?

I moved one of my angels into my 10G hospital tank about a week ago as his tail had been nipped to the point that he no longer had a tail. When I first got him his tail was nipped (due to being in small tank at LFS) but due to aggression with another angel he ended up with no tail.

Since he has been in the hospital his tail has started growing back very nice and evenly, should I leave him in the hospital until its completely grown back? or move him back into the main tank now that it is growing nicely.

Another angel in the main tank had a large bite out of his tail when I bought it home, but this has now healed completely. I think that maybe the one who is currently in the hospital was picked on because his tail was already pretty torn up, and so appeared an easy target. So would it be Ok to move him back now? or leave it a while longer?

Thanks.

I'd probably leave it until it was completely grown back, and try to maybe fatten it up a bit so its bigger when it goes back in. Unless its a full grown angel and the 10gal is really cramped, then I'd probably just get it back in the main tank asap.

Thanks, its a juvenile (body is about quarter size) angel so is OK in the 10G for a while longer. Will work on fattening him up some over the next week and then move him back to the main tank.

For nipped/ripped tails a QT is not necessary, but certainly helpful.

However...if the cause is due to aggression, this must be resolved in some manner. If the aggression was from a fish in your main tank, it will continue. The idea of an easy target is not related to the tail-fin previously being damaged, but rather any combination of Angel hierarchy, social balance between your Angels, space issues, or any other number of issues. if the aggression is related to the tail fins, it is only b/c the fish is weakened by a secondary infection started by the damage, but I don't think that's the cause.

If you can get him larger in comparison to the other Angels you have, this woudl help, but please rememebr that these are Cichlids...species aggression is the norm, not the exception.
