Hey all,

I have a 16 Gal planted tank that I need to upgrade the lighting on.
It has a 10 Gal footprint but is 18” tall.

I started to overdrive the stock 15 watt tube that came with it. But when I opened it up I found the cheap plastic reflector warped out of shape. If I ODNO it would surely melt.
I want an aluminum hood.

I have a DIY hood w/ A&H 96 CF over my 46 BF, so I took the old 36” ODNO factory hood and put it on the 16. Obviously it sticks out over the ends.

I can go with the Satellite, Corallife or an Orbit hood.

The plants are swords, crypts, giant haitgrass, narrow leaf micro sword,, dwarf baby tears, moneywort.
I have DIY CO2, PMDD & Excel daily.
My question is: How many WPG should I go with?
I can go with 28 w but it has a 20/20 tube.
I've found 1 x 40, 2 x 40 and even higher wattages.
I don’t want to sunburn the fish with a lot of WPG.

Thank you

I have a satellite with a 40w on my 16bf which used to be on a 10g. The lid doesn't stay open due to the large size of the light but I got used to it and it works great.

CB:

Please excuse me but I am assuming that you have a 10G long footprint = 24" x 9".

This is not as much light as I have for my tank and sump.

Your plants will grow like crazy but be prepared to spend several months experimenting with your feeding protocol, fertilization protocol and lighting duration in order to eliminate the algae on your tank walls.

BTW: I do not have CO2 but you may have to experiment with it's dosing also.

No, the tank is 10"deep X 20"wide X 16" high. I bought it at PetSmart and wish I hadn't. I only have neons & 3 Honey gouramis.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out. Maybe a 1 X 40 W Satellite would work. I can get one on EBAY shipped for $70.

Please let me know how it turns out.

Have only given you the best of my thinking but who knows for sure.

I would go with the single satellite with a 40w Current Dual Daylight bulb and you will have 4 wpg or there is a 32,28 and 27 watt bulbs available also.
