I have about 12 Demasoni fry with approx. 10 more on the way in the next day or two. Two females releasing only 2 days apart.

I have them in a 10g and feeding them crushed veggie flake and Cyclop-eze frozen food.

I give VERY little at a time several times a day, but it seems that the majority of it ends up on the bottom or on the sponge filter. Is this okay? How often should I syphon the bottom? There is very little crushed shell substrate. They seem to poke around at the bottom a lot, and the sponge filter sometimes too.

Thanks.

unless you see some serious spike in ammonia, or some mold growing on the excess, I would think it's ok.... you really have to monitor them closely though. fry eat almost continuously throughout the day, and if they are poking around in the gravel they are probably finding something to eat.

it is acctually better for fry to be fed a little bit frequently over a day.

unless you are already doing daily water cahnges, it may be a good idea to start.

I am, about a gallon a day (10%).

I'd increase the changes to 25% a day. I personally swear by pond snails. I have them in all my fry tanks to take care of the excess food.
