Hey i finally got my aquarium. I measured it out and its 45g. 48*12*18 Kinda odd size but it is an old aquarium. This sucker is heavy. There will be some repairs to it. I need to clean up the chrome. it has a small leak. I am on the hunt for some 100% black silicone. Here are a few pics for you viewing pleasure.

Awesome, those tanks are so cool. I have two I've gotten for free. One is being used as a sump, and I'm resealing the other one and trading it to msjinkzd for some plants and snails. And yes, they are heavy.

That is HOT! Very cool, my husband hopes to make me some larger metal framed tanks as well in the near future. I am excited to see what you do with it!

100% black silicone?? Any thoughts?

I used clear on mine, you can't see it anyway because of the frames. I use GE Silicone I for windows and doors, which does come in different colors. I know they have clear, white, grey and brown, they might have black as well.

For cleaning the chrome rim I have used one of those " Mr Clean Magic Erasers" and they work great. Lot's of rinsing and air dry afterwards as I am not sure if there are any chemicals in those things.
Nice tank by the way. I am looking for something like that to match my 10 gal.

there are most definitely chemicals in those things.

ask your LFS for black silicone, mine has it. If they don't have it, they can usually order it for you.

GE II comes in black, you can get it at Lowes.
I just looked a Lowes, All GE II has BioSeal, to resist mildue witch is bad for fish. I just talked to a friend who works at a paint store, he tells me that they have 100% silicone in black. I also see some aquariums at PetSmart have black silicone sealing the glass so this stuff has to exist. I also asked him about the best black paint to pain the back of the aquarium. He said they have a special pool paint that would resist water best. I want to paint it black but I also want to do something different. Something like a dark green, for I will be using Eco complete. i don't know maybe i'm making it more complicated.
