I just had to put down one of my cichlids because of sickness. Now i have another cichlid with the same symptons. The 2 fish show signs of losing weight and have a upside down pit on bottom of stomach along with some fin rot. The fish i just put down had some white patches on it along with the other symptons. I have the slightest bit of ammonia on showing on my test strips. It's been like that for some time thou. I use prime when i do my water changes. I change 40-50% my water with a python every other week. I have a penguin 350 and a whisper 40 as my filtration.
Besides that one fish, i have'nt had a fish in the tank die for several months.
Thanks on any advise.

What kind of cichlids do you have?

What size tank and how many of each fish?

What are your current water parameters...ammonia/nitrite/nitrates?

The dip strips are not very reliable..you need a good liquid test kit.

Can you post some pics?

The one i put down was a rusty cichlid. The other sick one is a yellow lab.
I currently do not have any other kits. I know that does'nt help me any.

Tank size?

I would do a 50% water change at minimum. If nothing else, water changes are a minimum.

What are your readings per the dip strips? What is your normal water change routine?

Using mardel ammonia test strips the reading is somewhere between .25 and .50
I don't change filters that often. When i do it's just 1 at a time. I have tested my tap water before and its reading were similar.

Should i use more than regular dose of prime, get medicine, or use more prime and get medicine? I wonder if the white patches on the 1 fish was ammonia burn or a fungas? the slender/slick look was like that for a while; but the fin rot and white patches came recently.
The 2 sick cichlids(1 deceased now) ate fine despite being skinny and having upside down pit look to its underbelly
