hello! i'm new here to AC. i just finished re-vamping our old 29 gallon tank. let it cycle through, then got my fish. it was originally my father's tank, but he kind of gave up on it 9 years ago (it was a mess to try to clean out...urgh). right now i've got 3 tiger barbs, 1 snakeskin gourami, 1 red paradise gourami (i had two, but one of them died recently... i'm afraid i've got ich in my tank, apparently. one of the tiger barbs has ich too...yech), 1 small plecko, 2 black skirt tetras (one of them is 9 years old! he's the reason i decided to revamp the tank...poor guy was swimming around in all that filth), 2 cherry barbs, 1 goldfish (i rescued him from the feeder tank...yea, i know, i'm weird for rescueing a dumb poop machine), 1 julii cory cat and 1 emerald cory cat.

so in order to treat the ich i'm putting the recommended drops in my tank, then i'll do a 25% water change. that should take care of it, right? don't really know why they got it, they've been fine in the tank for weeks and i haven't introduced any new fish to it. the only thing i've done differently is that i've given them some brine shrimp to munch on. i didn't think that would set it off, but maybe i should hold off on the shrimp?

i'm eventually planning on upping our tank to a 55 or 60 gallon. the filter that i have on the 29 gallon now would be fit for a 90 gallon tank (...yea...i have super-clear water), so i'd just need to get the tank and lights and more gravel and whatnot. and a heater, of course.

does anyone here know about freshwater puffers? i've been debating about whether or not to get one, and whether it'd get along with the other fish in my tank. the most aggressive ones in there are the tiger barbs, but they aren't too bad. they get along with the goldfish, at least. and they haven't picked on any of the other fish.

so yea, that was my intro post. hi ya'll.

FIrst welcome to AC second the puffer talk to the brackish people here Third raise the temp to a little over 80 and put a small amout of salt in the tank about 1 TEASPOON per gallon is max that should clear the ick

i know that most puffers are brackish water, but there is a store around here selling freshwater puffers. i don't think a brackish water puffer would survive in my tank (since...y'know. freshwater.) thanks for the recommendations about the ich...i've already raised the temp to 80ish (forgot to put that in my first post). didn't even think about the salt (having myself a nice "duh" moment right now).

Welcome to AC!

I would run 82-82 degrees and 2-3 teaspoons of table salt per gallon...slowly added over a couple of days.
