Filtration change question

I posed this in a FOWLR thread but had no response.
I currently have a 75g FOWLR that is 6 months old. I have 20 lbs. LR and 20 lbs. live sand. The rest of the substrate is CC. The is also about 50 lbs base rock, some of which has corraline. I initially set up the tank with a Magnum 250 w/biowheel and a Penguin 330 w/2 biowheels. I want to eliminate the large Magnum biowheel for starters. I would like to use that room for a hang-on fuge. If I just unhook the 1 biowheel and remove it, will I get an ammonia spike. I'll leave the filter running as it contains nitrate sponge.
My tank has a blue/green chromis, ocillaris clown, 3-stripe damsel, mandarin, lemonpeel angel and a large yellow tang. Inverts are CBS, mythrax crab, 3 hermits, 3 nassarius snails and about 4 other snails (trochus and astrea).
I'm just afraid if I take the large biowheel off, my balance will be disrupted.
Any advice??? Should I slowly add more LR first. I was finishing my basement at the same time I started the tank and dropped about 40k in there. That's why I could only start with what I mentioned above.

In my opinion, i would get the live rock up to a higher ammount before removing any filters from the system..The ammount of live rock you currently have wont be providing that much actual filtration..

Thanks.
That's what I'll think I'll do. I'd rather take the time and add live rock instead of taking any chances.
