i wanna start a FO 55g tank. right now i have a fluval 405 and 48" pc lunar lights by coralife and the tank and stand what else do i need ? thanks

The filter is certainly sufficient...The lighting is there simply for your viewing pleasure, so, not worries on them...
Other equiptment....An RO or RO/DI unit, a couple of 400gph powerheads, skimmer if you choose, hydrometer, tests for ammonia/pH/nitrite/nitrate, salt, thermometer ( not stick on )...
As its a FO, decor is down to personal preference....some live rock maybe, an inch or so sandbed if you choose.....
Thats about it for the basics....
Yes, maintain in the same way....not really much difference....Yes, it will need cycling, same as FOWLR or reef...Cycling suggestions are here...

Yes, you can have snails and hermits in there, providing there is a food source for them, if not, then food would have to be provided to sustain them....Of course, your choice of stocking will also dictate whether you can have inverts in there....

If you don't want a clean up crew then you certianly don't have to have one. I have to admit though, I wouldn't know where to start on how to keep a tank clean without them as I've always had crabs, snails etc.
Am I right in thinking you're going aggressive (hence why you don't want a CUC). If so a little teaser of your stocking list would be great (only because I'm envious):grinyes:
whats a cuc ? im not really sure yet of what im gonna stock it with im sure ill have a small clean up crew . when i start to cycle it should i just use the water out of my reef tank when i do a water change and fill upt the rest with sw from my lfs
