Yes the dreaded Cyano and Hair Algae....

Our Quarantine tank is the culprit. Now baring in mind that there is only a sun coral and a branching hammer head in quarantine at the moment.. We are battling with Algae.

Readings are all 0 INCLUDING phosphate! I have two different sorts of phosphate remover in the tank...

Water changes are done weekly at 33% so a third basically..

I an constantly scraping red cyano off the glass and off the filter box and i have hair algae growing on the outlet pipe of the box and on the LR which is part of the filter....

Anyone got any ideas on this. The photo period is long i.e 7.30 a.m to 9.pm. this is the only thing that I think is the problem..

do you agree or have any clues?

thanks

If the red algae is slimy, then yes, it does sound like it...Also, check out dino's too....

I would imagine the feeding regime is going to be low, as you only have two corals in there..Yes, cut the lighting down to 8 hours, i think this will help no end with the problem...8 hours is more than adequate for corals...

hi

Thanks.. I don't know about the dinos as mine is more red than brown, however it does have air bubbles and returns within 12 hours of me scraping the lot off. I have carbon and phosphate remover, calc = 430 and KH = 8

I will try reducing the lights for a week and see how I go...

If it is Dino I don't want to transfer it to my main tank!! The corals have two weeks left in QT so.. hopefully I'll have it sorted by then....

With a hair algea and slime out break its not uncommon to have all readings zero but that doesnt meen they are, have you checked your source water, also what do you have for flow in your tank and what type of lights and what kelvin rating are they and how old are they.
