I am in the process of looking for a Ro/DI water purification system. I have a 29 Gallon tank that I am going to be setting up. What would be a good system to get. I want to keep the price under $150. All of your comment on what you guys use would be helpfull.

Thanks

While there is a variety of places to purchase a RO/DI unit, there are some features that you should lean towards having:
10" standard cartridges (minimum of 2 as a prefilter to the RO membrane, 3 is much better if you have chloramines in your water)
10" vertical DI chamber
inline pressure gauge (between the last prefilter and the RO membrane -- allows you to monitor water pressure at the RO membrane, which is useful as an indicator for monitoring cartridge clogging)

When it comes to RO membranes, the general cut-off for efficiency is 100 gpd (gallons per day). RO membranes that are rated less than 100 gpd tend to have a higher rejection rate, meaning they allow a lower total amount of impurities to pass through the membrane. This results in the DI resin lasting longer, since there's less for the DI resin to remove from the water. Dow Filmtec 75 gpd membranes are fairly commonly used in our hobby.

Many people swear by RO/DI units they bought on eBay. I haven't tried one from there. I bought mine from melevsreef.com over 2 years ago. It's a 100 gpd unit, but I've had great sucess with it, especially since TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) in our tap water is not all that high. I know several people that really like units from The Filter Guys (thefilterguys.biz), and I buy all my replacement cartridges / DI resin from them. Air, Water, and Ice (airwaterice.com) has a good reputation within the hobby as well.

I can help you out with anything u need! Our units are 4 stage or 6 stage all DI units and have a few extra options that others don't for $170

I just got a unit from Thefilterguys. It was very easy to get started and is producing water with 0 TDS...my water going into the unit is over 300, and is producing 50 GPD with 50 PSI from the tap and very cold water. The stated yield for all RODI units is with 77 degree water and 50 PSI+ from the source water. My unit was $199, but there are a couple with less "bells and whistles" that will be in your price range. Jim is very helpful and knowledgeable.

I use the airwaterice unit, with additional DI canisters (typhoon iii I believe) and it delivers 75 gpd with 0 tds just out of the membrane! But I am lucky to have good tap water too.
