what is too hot and what is too cold what range should the tank be in?

Reason I ask is because my tank use to be 77-79 winter now that is is warming up it was 79-82. This is the 12 gal aqua hqi with the glass lid on.

Now I have taken the lid off and using egg crate and it has been 76-78 today right now it is at 76.

Is 76 to cold for daytime or should it be higher ?

Just trying to see what everyone would run there tanks at I know some get hot so ideal what do you shoot for ?

No lower than 74 and no higher than 84. Those are the absolute extremes for me. You can go colder for a short period but not hotter. I usually keep mine running at 77.4-78.

Just to add, the higher range (79-84) promotes faster algae growth.

I keep my tank about the same as Ace, 76.8-77.6

I keep mine in average reef temperatures, somewhere between 80-82 degrees. No algae problems with my tank, but nutrients are ultra low, too.

Great question. I've been keeping my around 74-75 but it's a brand new tank and I don't know what I"m doing yet!

I agree with you, I like to keep mine between 79-82 and no real algea problems but I have some good flow to help keep things suspended and a ASM G-2 skimmer on my 65 with 50 sump and low bio load

Right. That is how I keep mine. I have LOTS of flow too. Just ask around:grinyes:

With my return and PH's I have about 2200 GPH in a 4 footx1 foot foot print tank.

Thanks now I feel like a pup in the flow department LOL. I know that I dont have any dead spots except where I need to thin out some corals so I guess I am ok

I'm reading an invert book right now that says if you are keeping a reef tank to keep water at tropical levels...around 80%...?

my heater died so I had to get 1 from wally because we have nothing around here.

I got the 1 where it is not adjustable suppose to stay at 78 umm yeah well woke up today water was at 74 not good took it back and got a bigger adjustable one.

Now my tank is at 80 I need to dial it down some pain in the butt.

your best bet is to not mess with those..
get you a cheap titanium one with a remote adjuster..they are not expensive, and temp is something important enough to spend a couple extra bucks on....

Anyone have any thoughts about my invert book saying to keep temperature at 80ish?? I haven't seen any peeps around here doing that and am wondering why...

Don't want to reinvent the wheel if everyone already has it figured out.
