Hi,
After having issues getting the individual chemicals required for the EI method (KNO3 etc) I have bought a hydroponics solution instead (powder). But I want to ask here first what you guys reckon, if it will be ok, and that it WON'T HARM MY FISH.

The product is Manutec Hydroponic Nutrient. It comes in two parts, that you can mix together.

Part 1 has in it (%W/W)

Nitrogen as Nitrate 6.2%
Nitrogen as Ammonium 1.4%
Phosphorus as Water Soluble 3.1
Potassium as Nitrate 18.2%
Sulphur as Sulphates 4.5%
Magnesium as Sulphate 3.5%
Iron as Chelate 0.34%
Manganese as Sulphate 0.08%
Zinc as Sulphate 0.08%
Copper as Sulphate 0.03%
Boron as Sodium Borate 0.003%
Molybdenum as Molybdate 0.001%

Part 2 has in it

Calcium as Nitrate 19%
Nitrogen as Nitrate 15.5%

When dosed at the rate they specify (I assume I'll greatly reduce this, but by how much?) you end up with

PPM

Total nitrogen 215
Total Phosphorus 37
Total potassium 218
Calcium 152
Sulphur 54
Magnesium 42
Iron 4.08
Manganese 0.96
Zinc 0.48
Copper 0.36
Boron 0.036
Molybdenum 0.012

In summary, part one has NPK 7.6 / 3.1 / 18.2 + trace
part two has Calcium Nitrate

ANY HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Seriously, I want to know if this would be ok to use, and what sort of levels should I be aiming for/dosing.

Thanks

Anyone?

What sort of N.P.K. should I be aiming for?

From Rex Griggs site, here is what your NPK should run:

* Nitrates 10-20ppm
* Phosphates 1.0-2.0 ppm
* Potassium 10-20 ppm

There is no way to tell if the fertilizer you have will be harmful to fish, unless you have a complete list of ingredients it contains. I don't think that the analysis you have listed is an actual ingredient list.

The only way to test that it will harm your fish is to put a feeder fish in a small tank with this solution and see. But that's probably just cruel.

Yeah, I thought of that, but won't do it...

No worries, I think I've found a good fertiliser mix that I'm going to try instead of EI since I can't get the chemicals

Thanks!
