Mollies and sword tails reef?

Interesting experiment in a local store...they acclimated mollies to SW so the live babies could become coral food. Oddly the cyano issue the tank had not been able to kick disappeared. They've tried it a few more times and each time the mollies go in the cyano starts going away fairly rapidly.

Reef tanks are mini ecosystems. Where the animals all play a roll. Where would these fresh water fish fit into this environment. Their offspring will not survive in saltwater, as far as I know,.And as to the fry being food for other inhabitants, I don't believe that they would have the right protiens for saltwater animals. Mainly do to the lack of omega 3's. Then there is the question as to long term consequences. Saltwater and freshwater animals have immunity's to their respective environments, would introducing freshwater fish into saltwater open the other inhabitants to deseases and parasites, viruses and bacterias that they have no way to fight off.
I can understand scientific studies doing these things, but as to reefers and pet stores doing it , I think we should let nature tell us what environment they should be in.
These are just my opinion, for what it is worth.

If they seriously think molly fry are good for coral feeding, then i would seriously question their wisdom. Am sorry, this makes absolutly zero sense why a LFS would purposly breed mollies, to produce fry, which will have no nutritional value, "not" a food for coral in any sense to feed corals when there are plenty of "proper" coral feeds available....

Of course, this is just "my" opinion.... :grinyes:

Just reporting what I witnessed. The employee in question is getting his masters in Marine Biology by the way.

Sorry, but, with all due respect to him "getting" his masters degree, feeding coral FW or BW fry is not an experiment that provides any logic or sense...

Oh well....
