I am in Chicago and have had African Cichlids for the past three years but need to relocate to Alabama. So, if you are interested and can make me believe that you can actually care for them, you can have them for free, including equipment and tanks (before you get real excited, my stand are homemade and tanks don't have lids.. a 55 and a 100). All my fish are:
Tank 1 & 2
Red Zebra - 1
Powder Blue - 1
ElectricYellow-1
Melanochromis Auratus - 1
Pseudotropheus Lombardoi - 1
Labeotropheus Fuelleborni - 1
Tank 3
Silver Dollar - 1
Plecastomus - 1
Guppies - Lots
I can provide pics if interested

what are the dimensions on a 100g tank? If I can figure a spot for it...I may make the trip up there.

are you willing to seperate the tanks?
how far of a drive from akron ohio?
what kind of filtration and lighting?

Here are some pics. The 100g is 4'x2'. The lighting is only a couple of flourecents I bought from home depot and hangs from the ceiling. Filtration is a bunch of powerheads and a home made wet-dry. I will keep the sump pump from that. There is also a 55g but when I moved it into place I broke the pastic strap that comes across the middle to prevent the glass form bowing outwards, and so I made a piece of wood to keep the glass in place. The two tanks are connected by u-tubes and thus the flow circulates through both tanks. The stands are homemade. The stand for the 100g is heavy and is 4x2x3. I am not the most aesthetic oriented fish keeper. I am more into making sure there is proper waterflow, filtration, and comfort for them. I have lots of crushed coral and stone gravel, and rocks to build caves with. I do live on the third floor and there is no elevator. I want to see pic of your setup before I give them. I want to make sure they go to someone capable. The fish are roughly 3.5 to 5 inches and TERRITORIAL. They will kill by relentlessly attacking and biting. For some reason, even if I mix them all up and remove all caves so there is no terrirtory to fight over, they get along somewhat for a while but eventually I have to seperate them with egg crate dividers. Maybe soemone else will have better ideas than I.
I have decided to hang on to Tank 3 until I move at the end of summer.

I sooo want that tank, let me do some talking and see what I can do...well, and I'll have to see what I can come up with for a filter...if you are keeping the sump pump.
The cichlids shown are they from the 100 gal??? So it is like a foot longer then a 55 right and about a foot wider...hmmm, if I move me 55 to the living room somehow, I believe it would fit where I have one of my 55s right now.:grinyes:

The 100g is the same width as a 55g, it is twice as deep. So a 100 is 4x2, and a 55g is 4x1. I assume you have some fish in your 55g so, the issue is, how would you keep all the fish? As I said, the African Cichlids are aggressivley territorial.
All but two of the fish in the pictures are in the 100g.

Ok, I'm confused...does the tank not come too? So, I guess I'm not understanding what you mean by "where would you keep the fish"?

What I mean is, that it sounds like you already have some fish in a 55 gal and that you would try to mix your existing fish with these African Cichlids... is that right? If so, what kind are they because the fish I have are aggressively territorial. All I am saying is that I think you would really have to keep a close eye on them. As it is now, I actually have to divide the tank into sections with egg crate because otherwise, they some would be killed by others. The tank does come with them, but I want to feel comfortable that they will be kept as part of the tank and not thrown out or something. I

No, I have no intention of mixing my fish with yours..the ones I have in my 55 are Central Americans....2 Gold severums and 1 firemouth, there is no way I could mix the two. I meant moving the actual tank itself into the living room and putting the 100g in the spot I have the 55 right now...not moving the fish around. I am fixing a 75g right now that the severums and firemouths will be moving to when I am done, I was going to use the 55 for a African tank, but if I get this one, I could actually use it for something else. :grinyes:

I'll take them. I live in Wisconsin. I have a 29 gallon cichlid aquarium. I'll take care of them. I built the stand for my fish tank as well. My sister gave me the tank with some hang on filters. I replaced the hang on filter for a eheim canister. I know how aggressive the cichlids are. When I first started (about a year and a half ago) I entered a new small cichlid to the tank, and the other ones killed him. I learn from that. I only had 5 fish in the tank. So, if you want I could come this weekend and pick it up. I take well care of them. I even have a RO/DI system even though the water from the sink is not as bad as some other places. My lfs told me I could use tap water because the water we get is not too bad. I still went out and bought an RO/DI system. I tested the water from the sink and it was at 176ppm, which is not as bad as other places. But now I get 0ppm, which is even better. I also have a 15 gallon quarantine tank. Let me know what you think. If you need pictures, let me know.
