Anyone have any thoughts about the Idea of putting my 2 crayfish into my 125 with cories ? I figure there should be plenty of room , just not sure if they would bother the cories ?
Also , ya think they would bugger up my plants ???
I guess I could just try it but I would like to know if anyone has crays with fish and plants ?
Thanks,
[\[\ark
This is the tank:

you should get a ton of dwarf crays. They wont bother anyone. And since you are not keeping shrimps in there you dont have to worry about losing any..

what kind of crays? I have heard that they do enjoy eating/rearranging plants and would worry about them ambushing the cories/fish after lights out. Wait for people experienced with keeping them to chime in though.

crays eat anything they can. i have seen them pinch onto a 10" goldfish and take a ride while chewing on the fin.

Common crays will eat your cories. Dwarf crays are the only cories able to be kept with small fish.

okski dokski , I guess I got my answer , thanks !
Mind If I borrow your thread and ask what kind of crayfish I would have to get to leave my pictus catfish/RTBS alone? both are bottom dwellers and the RTS will start off at about 2/3 inches so will they be in danger?
Would they be o.k with a young normal crayfish? would the cat eat him if I buy him too small? Also really nice tank.

crayfish will most deff tear up your plants, if not to eat for suface cover. as for cories they may make lunch of them. the only fish i keep with my crays are guppies they dont seem to bother them, well every once in a while i see one as lunch but very rare do they eat them. they also share the same caves as the crays.

My red claw cray (blue lobster) started out at 2 inches, and is now 6 inches long. In my 4 foot community tank he has...
Rejected every cave I have provided him, and built a fortress of his own by digging under and shifting gravel around/behind a big rock until he is is happy with it.
He has never killed anything to my knowledge. My two banjo catfish, cories, and all other bottom dwellers have survived him, and he shares his 'base camp' with several fishy friends.
All my apples snails are OK, as are the nerites, and Columbian ramshorns. (The little red ramshorn snails did disappear – but I can't point the finger at anyone in particular.
'Someone' digs up a plant or two a week – but I can't point the finger at anyone in particular.
I think it all depends on the temperament of your individual cray – or perhaps how well you feed him. Mine is a real sweetie – others I've heard of are terrors in a community tank...

my female (ronnie) is a devil for moving gravel. she has a cave she loves and gathers all the gravel into it.
they have cleaned there tank out of snials (ramshorns) but live peacefully with guppies.
when they were in my comunity tank they trie to catch anything they could which ended in shredded finns, so now in a home of there own happy together.

Mine will snack on a fish or two (platties) but they reproduce quick enough. No living plants or snails. Basically, if you have a non dwarf species of crayfish, they will likely decorate the tank to their pleasure.
