So Sploke and I got home from the lfs today with a few new additions. An emerald crab, a lawnmower blenny, and a orange spotted goby, also a few more mollies for the brackish tank. All seems well I am carying the bag in from the car and all of a sudden whosh....the bottom of the bag rips and my new fish go tumbling to the ground. Of course the blenny and the goby's bags split when they hit my front steps. The mollie's and the crab's bags were fine.

:eek3::eek: OH NOOOOOOO......Matt (sploke) comes running holding our 8 month old daughter. We quickly put everything inside, including Gwen and he rushes back out to see if he can find the fish while i grab some tupperware and fill it with water from our reef which is fortunately right inside the front door. We managed to find both fish with in a minute or so and got them into water. So much for proper acclimation............

They have both managed to survive my attempt on their lives....:wall::wall::wall: (I'm so mad at myself for causing fish trama) and are currently in our qt tank. I will let you all know how they fair.

So let this be a lesson to everyone on double bagging your fish!

dont be so hard on yourself...it wasnt your fault.. and im sure the fish will be fine..
whatever doesnt kill em makes em stronger?
good luck, and i hope your fish are ok!

ya, don't sweat it. you did nothing wrong. actually, that story is a nightmare of mine, so i am always ocd about making sure the fish are double bagged, and i usually support the bottom of the bag when i carry them. haha...i look pretty strange carrying my fish around i'm sure, but i still haven't dropped one :D i'm sure it will happen to me at some point, though, as it's almost inevitable to happen to anyone who purchases fish. i'm sure your fish will do just fine and will make great additions to your tank.

i agree, don't be so hard on yourself. They're in QT and you went and found them. There are people that would have either not worried about picking them up off the ground or would have just tossed them in the DT without second thought. We've all done things we could kick ourselves for :)

I have a terrible fear of dropping my fish when I get out of my car. My drive way is very steep and runs into a busy street. One time I dropped a bottle of water and I couldn't grab it quick enough, it rolled down into the street and a car ran it over and the water splashed all over. So now I picture this happening to my fish every time I get out of the car. I usually make my boyfriend walk over to my side of the car and take the fish from me so there is no dropping! I am really clumsy.

I am happy that the fish are doing well now. Its a good thing you guys are smart, I would have probably flipped out and panicked, lol.

Well they seem to have survived their ordeal and lack of acclimation so far. The lfs specific gravity was lower than ours so I was pretty worried about that shock, but the little lawnmower blenny especally is doing well he is out and looking for food. Good thing they didn't seem to tank my murder attempt personally.

guess i was wrong today. when i first sarted this "sport", i always got everthing in a single-ply bag. i recently got some new fish. two bags? kinda p-off. they put one bag upside-down in the other bag. alittle bit of a hassle, having to turn the bag upside-down to the get the other bag out. felt bad for the fishes. less stress and all.

anyways after your story, i fell blessed today for the two bags. i really like my new fish. heaven forbid they would of fallen like that. i would have been freakin:22_yikes:!!!!

hope everthing goes good for y'all, given the circumstances.:)

It's amazing how tough fish can be. When I first moved house, my LFS stored my tank and tankmates at his shop. The time came for him to bring them all back to me, so of course he had to catch all the fish and pack all the rock etc. About 2.5 hrs later he got to my house and we were starting to put everything back in when I heard a sound coming from the polystyrene box containing the rock. Lo and behold there was my cleaner wrasse in a tiny little puddle of water and had been for a couple of hours. Little bugger is still going strong to this day and that was 2 years ago it happened!!!!

Wtg , you saved them :-)
i take a contAiner with me when i buy anything as im so careless with stuff, that way when i poke them the water stays lol
and yes they always get poked lol next time im taking the bucket as it has a handle easier to carry.
totally not your falt
