Hi, I have a planted 20 Gal aquarium that has lots of big and baby Malaysian Trumpet Snails. Anybody knows about these? Are these harmful? Do they alter any water conditions? Should I get rid of them? How?

They are not harmful, they are actually useful. Keep them.

Definitely not harmful - in fact, they stir your gravel and will clean plants and the glass as well...but if you have a lot, you're probably overfeeding your fish. You can lessen their numbers simply by feeding less from now on.

They are livebearing snails that are quite useful for stirring substrate. They do tend to be quite prolific with an ample food source. If you need to catch them to thin/remove any of the population you can take an old water bottle and cut the top off, then invert it and place it back into the top of the bottle. Drop some veggie into the bottle and place it in the tank after lights out. You will probably catch a good many this way for removal. Many people are often willing to pay shipping to get them as they are very desirable in tanks with a sand substrate.

If you have "hundreds" as your signature states, you should offer up some to forum members, such as myself. :) There are lots of people that would be willing to give them a good home.

Lots of MTS usually means lots of extra food(as mentioned above). It's funny, the petsmart in the north end of town is "infested" with MTS(likely because their tanks always have feeder blocks or some kind of food in them, always), and the petsmart in the south end is "infested" with pond snails for likely the same reason. Don't ask why the mts prefer the north end of town...I like to think it's because the north end is nicer ;)

i make sure to put them in all my sand substrate tanks... i think they are helpful for them. also easy way to tell if your over feeding or not.

SW ontario. True story about the snails north/south at the petsmarts, just joking about the north being nicer because I live there :D :D
Unfortunately, the employees are reluctant to give me any MTS's.
I'll probably just order a few from the same place I'll be ordering a few other types. $2.50 for 10 :D
