I have added some new inhabitants to my tank as of last weekend....

1.) Finger Leather Coral (the Green Hairy Mushroom was a hitchhiker) bought Finger Leather Coral last weekend.
2.) Yellow Bristle Serpent Star (Eel wanted in the pic) & Candy Coral (new as of last weekend). Pic taken at night, hence the coral closed up.
3.) Yellow Bristle Serpent Star (solo pic) new as of last weekend.
4.) Xena Coral (got that two weeks ago)
5.) Olive Snail? Is that the species of snail? I bought it a month or so ago and don't remember what it was called, I just pointed to it in the tank at the LFS and said "I want that" because it was so bada** to watch it dive into the sand.
6.) Cerith Snail? Is that what this is? I know it's a small pic. and a little fuzzy but it was a hitchhiker on one of my pieces of LR. Last night was the first time I had ever seen it.
7.) Leather Coral. don't remember off the top of my head right now which kind. (bought last week)

I know it's just a snail, but I totally love my Olive Snail (assuming that's what it is). It's SO cool to watch come up to the surface and dive down into the sand, plus its shell is so pretty and smooth.
The Serpent Star is really neat too, though I don't see it much during the day, I found myself delayed in getting to bed because I couldn't stop watching it once the lights were off. :)

I LOVE this hobby!!

beautiful creatures! I've never heard of that snail...sounds fascinating. What kind of eel is that?

This is a great hobby! So exciting but also so scary when something is going wrong!

That is a Snowflake Eel. I've had it for about 5 years. They're very hardy and one of the easiest Eels to care for. When I got it it was only about 6 inches long and no wider than my pinky. Now it's about 1 1/2 feet long and as thick/wide as 2-3 fingers put together. I LOVE my Eel!!

Your snail looks is indeed an olive snail, looks like a Lettered Olive, which are native to the southeastern US. There's some info at Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lettered_Olive). Be aware that these guys are carnivores.

Thanks for the help.

Should carnivores not be in a Reef Tank? When it does come to surface I usually feed it a piece of a Silverside, watching it grab it and dive back into the sand. When it surfaces I usually assume that's because it doesn't have enough food in the sand.

I'll have to keep my eyes on it. I LOVE watching this snail and have come attached to it so hopefully it doesn't become a problem.

I wouldn't think it will be a problem, as long as you keep it fed. I just didn't want you to think it was a grazer and not feed it. If it gets too hungry, it may go after small molluscs or crustaceans.

Thanks a lot! I just picked up an Emerald Crab about an hour ago. I'll post a couple pics of it in a bit. VTEEL

P.S. Yeah, I adore my Snowflake, and he/she appreciates the compliment :)

your eel looks nice and fat! he'll probably make your emerald lunch though atleast with my experience mixing them.
