Removing mushrooms

I have some Mushrooms on a piece or rock in my 10g tank that only houses LR. I would like to get them or that rock and get them into my display tank.. Everytime I touch them they curl up and I can't get to them. How do I remove them.

What type of mushrooms do you have? Discoma, fuzzy, ricordea, or ? I typically take the rock out of the water, hold it upside down and the shroom will typically close. That is when you get your best shot as the base. I wouldn't panic if you cut at the stem. The stem will grow out to another mushroom and the disc will be another. You can segment the disc like a pizza (each piece has to have part of the mouth) on a typical discoma. HTH Here is a link to a few more prop options. http://www.fragoutpost.com/frag-propagation

try aiming a powerhead at them, that usually gets them to detach problem is chasing them down afterwards

Can someone please explain again what needs to be done with the mushroom after you cut it? I went to the link about fragging and see the container with mesh around the top, it looks like shells and rock in the container? Is this so the mushroom has something to latch onto? The last couple of steps is where I get lost. I need to frag my Green Hairy Mushroom as it's nearing 6 inches, this info. would be very helpful.

VTEEL: the rubble/shells are simply substrate for the "loose mushroom" to adhere to. The netting is to ensure that the shroom stays in the container and increases the likelyhood that it will adhere to the rubble/shells you have provided.
