Any ideas what I can do to increase the odds of success of the Discus fry? We used a divider and we put paper around to make it less stressful for the fish. We are at a-loss what to do. From what I have heard it could be they are immature I am not sure. Any more ideas would be appreciated.

confirmed pair? move them into a breeding tank and place that tankin a quiet spot in the house.

only if you want to increase the chances of success. ;)
oh and yes, it takes them a few tries to 'get it right'.

Well, after many tries I am assuming they are a pair. They stick together when the eggs are layed; very aggressive towards tank mates, chasing them away: I have a good feeling they are. The eggs did hatch this last time; lasted four days before they were eaten. Also on the breeding tank what size tank 20-29? Do they stay there in the new tank indefinitely?

I agree with star_rider. And yes, you keep them in there indefinitely. With something to spawn on like a tall inverted clay flower pot or a breeding cone. 29 would be minimum requirement, remember......the parents will need to stay with the fry for a while, you need some room! It may take many more attempts before they become good parents. I think they settle down to business better when they are in a separate breeding tank kept quiet. Did you actually get wriggelers from the eggs? Sounds like a confirmed pair to me if you did! Or even that you know the eggs were fertilized.

Thanks for the advice too all. Yes, they were wigglers moving around quite a bit. I will get a 29 gal tank and go from there.

Good to know thewre's others out there with the same problem LOL. I have 20 discus in a 210 gal aquarium and so far I have three pairs, they all laid eggs at just about the same time. Just found out they were all eaten as well :( Once I return home in June I will move them to there own 50 gallon aquariums and see how that works out. I did read that's it's good for the discus pair to mate & lay there eggs in a community for the first time because it boosts the parents natural defensive actions thus making the parental instincts stronger. AHHH! We'll see.
