just got my four blue jacks yesterday. very cool. i want to hear from anyone else who has gotten these little guys and any advise or experiences about them. ive raised regular dempsies but hey didnt start looking really slick till they got to be adults. these guys look so good now i cant wait until they get to be full sized.
Blue Dempsey isn't as aggressive as the Standard Dempsey. My JD would attack the BDs all the time to the point that they would not come out to eat. I have to move my BDs to Severums tank where they live happily. In the other tank where the ph was 7.5, the BDs look paler. When I moved them to the Severum tank where the ph is 6.5, their color is so much darker. My 2.5" female BD is more aggressive than the 2.75" male. She would pick on my male BD whenever she could. However, lately, I noticed my male BD has fought back. I also notice that BD grows slower than JD. I got my JD 2 months ago when she was only an inch. Now she is 3.5". As for my BDs (female was 2". male was 2.25"), I got them 5 weeks ago. They only grew half inch the whole time. Currently, my male and female are inseparable. They eat, swim, and sleep together. Cute buggers. :D
I feed them all kinds of food, pellets, sticks, flakes, and home made fish food containing vege and shrimp. They love them all.
Here are couple pictures.
This picture was taken when they were in the tank with the JD. Male and female.

I agree with everything above cept mine are just as temperamental as my normal jacks. My male blue is the dominant fish (although he is also the largest) and will "push" the others (female blue + three normal jacks) aside to assert himself. They do seem a bit weak though; I lost my other male for no apparent cause; he just came out less and less and eventually died.
