Will banggai cardinals in captivity reside in the spines of their natural host, the long-spine urchin?

My banggais never went near my long-spine urchin. The baby banggai did use the artificial one I made but not to any great length. I certainly wouldn't buy one for my cardinals again.

The babies do but even that's not necessary
I have seen it first-hand but adults are waaay too large to even fit.

That depends on the size of the urchin. I started the same thread on another forum. One user there described his pair who love his big urchin.

Mine were wild caught but it's their baby I'm raising.
