View Full Version : Feeding starfish and corals
I have a green brain coral and a large blue starfish just wondering what to feed them ?
What kind of brain coral? Open brain (puffy when open) or closed brain (flesh always tight to the skeleton)?
Is it a blue linkia star?

Practically all 'brain corals' will readily accept mysis shrimp (typically at night when they extend their feeder tentacles).
From what I understand blue linckia's (is that what you have?) are foragers and require large quantities of live rock to find what they required for subsistence.

Aparently the blue star is hard to find food that they eat ,and many people loose them .
I have a large brittle star ,i chop raw frozen shrimp from the grocery, run it under cold/warm water till it thaws and cut it small smaller then dime size and my star will grab it .I do the frozen cubes and it takes that also,i put the food close to the arms and it grabs it ,it will also take the shrimp pellet formula that i feed the goby's.
If your star isnt eating i would hold it and try and put the food close to the mouth untill it learns to eat the food you are offering.
Good luck ,they are beautifull stars if you can keep it alive ,try different foods untill you find one it will take easily ,can even try frozen raw meaty foods from the grocery
this is why they are better off in the wild as change says .
may starve to death probably 85%to 95|% chance thats what will happen .be vigilant and try your best to keep it alive you must try and feed this beautiful creature something.
I plan on getting one when i am more experianced and experiment with foods for feeding my tank.
Someone told me to try ,frozen wasago from the store too .i would just be sure to use frozen RAW not cooked.
Thans will give it all a try and will post picks when i work out how to get the pick from the phone to the computer
