How do you keep the HC in the substrate? I've been replanting the chunks about every other day. My cories uproot it all the time; and I replant it right after. Are there any ways to keep the HC down ? Some of the HC have grown; but the rest are floating at the surface.

ahh thats the tricky part.. best to get those type of fish later on when the ground plants have set roots.. what you can do is try and put them in a bit deeper. You actually used the 7 pots?? lol

Yep, the HC will never be allowed to root and grow with those cories in there.

I actually only used 5 I got so tired planting it. The other two pots I'm going to use for a new tank setup.

5 for a 20 long wow lol as i said before i used 1 for a 10g and had plenty left over..
If you used 5 then you must have some big clumps of it, just sprinkle a few pieces of gravel on top to keep them down along with burying them a bit deeper

I can't wait to have a grassy plain in the tank. Some parts look good. but ill keep planting. Thanks for the advice.

What substrate are you using? That may be part of the problem. :D

I agree....its going to be hard to have it all stay in the substrate with the Cories.

Use some tweezers and shove it as far as you can in the substrate.....some of it can be covered up. Then just replant what they uproot. Eventually, the part that stays in the substrate will root and spread.

I have about 1 1/2 bags of Eco Complete in the 20g Long - its about 2-2.5" of substrate.

This is how my 20 gallon emersed setup is looking with hc. The first picture was taken a couple of days ago, while the second pic was taken March 1. I split up the hc into much smaller pieces a few days after and it has really taken off.

I was wondering the same thing. What does HC mean? Obviously some kind of grassy plant that spreads on the substrate.

Common name is Cuba. HC is the initials of a really long scientific name.

i believe its common name is "dwarf baby tears"
scientific: hemianthus callitrichodes
Might be wrong though..

depending on availability, you could also go for glossostigma somewhat similar look, though I like HC a little more.

I'd love to have ground cover in my 10g. I tried to accomplish it with some dwarf sword planted in some rockwool, but it's nearly dwindled to nothing by this point :/

Depending on your lighting, they are better than glosso because gloss needs bright lights while HC can grow with medium only.
