http://www.redseafish.com/cut/Aquarium_kits/mini_aquarium%20_set_up.jpgis this one gallon fishtank with a 16 gph filter big enough to raise clownfish fry

also are ther any fish or inverts that can live in it

I wouldn't put any fish in it, wouldn't raise clownfish fry in it either, even a small amount of evaporation would make salinity swing wildly, and there'd be a lot of waste build up with such a small volume of water.

How about a shrimp or crab and live rock?
Water change will be so easy. :grinyes:

if you were extra careful with the water parameters and stayed on the water top-offs like white on rice you would probably ok. but i'd say no fish...maybe just one crab or shrimp. you could do a small coral in there too if you liked...but then you've really gotta worry about the water parameters. maybe if you put saran wrap over the top that would help with water evaporation...

That is a Beta tank. My neighbors girl has the same one. Works great for fw Betas.. I wouldn't think of putting any other fish in their though.

I'd just plug a 100 gallon sump up to it. Evaporation and stability issues fixed...

Nice Amp! Yeah! Drill it for bulkheads put in some gurgle busters, a Koralias, and bingo! You have what looks like a HOB with a single Chromis living in it.

watch out for chromis jumping over to the sump!

In your opinion, would 1.5" bulkheads be enough? I don't know if that would be enough to keep up with a Sequence Hammerhead for a closed loop. Don't forget the Orca sequence dart-powered skimmer, either--to keep things clean for the chromis.

LOL!!
1.5" Bulkheads should work fine.
What about some better lighting?
400W MH pendant?
1/2hp chiller?

OMG.......are you guys actually serious with all this equiptment....?????????????? Sheesh....
Come on.......This tank REALLY needs a 2 inch bulkhead fitting...

You know, I got to thinking about this and I think a surge device may be better. I am thinking a 15 gallon surge through 2.5" pvc ought to be enough. Forget artificial lighting--I'm thinking Solatubes, here.
kcress

Yeah!! That would actually be the ultimate tide pool.. Going completely dry every surge.

LR and coral banded shrimp. If yours works, I will get one for the office.

perhaps a small fry or two would work, however you will definitly want to plumb it into a sump, perhaps something like a 5.5g or 10g, you can easily cut the overflow grating into the back wall and then make an external overflow, won't take up any space inside the tank or affect the looks inside the tank. just make a 4"x2.5~3"x4" 3 sided glass box and silicone it to the back and drill the bottom of it for a 1/2" bulkhead and use a MJ900 for a return via a 3/8" bulkhead drilled in one of the sides.

You are a killjoy with your realistic approach to the situation :silly:

and for some extra water flow you'll want a koralia 4 and a pair of vtech pumps, you might want to also upgrade the MJ900 to a hammerhead pump and put a mag36 for a closed loop, a surge tank on the side might also be a good idea if you've got enough room in the equipment room next to the 8'x4'x12" frag/clam tank, 8'x8'x2' fuge, 12' tall skimmer and 4'x4'x2' sump oh and you're lighting is going to have to be upgraded, if you want softies then look for a 1000w 6,500k MH for the main daylight, and 3x250w 20k for the actinitcs and 8x54w t5 actinics for the moonlights. for SPS change it to 2x1000w 65k bulbs for some of the easier ones.

I have seen such a small nano before with an IV drip with distilled water in it for top offs.

Sounds like the Holmer Simpson bowling alley where they threw away the bowling pins each frame and then made new pins by lathing whole trees into single pins.

i should just make it a decorative waterfall. u know just cut off the first three sides and cut and glue them to the back. or maybe i should return it.......

nah, definitly do something with it, it'll be fun.

it does look fun but every one who has posted has had ideas that fight with each other. i need a short summary of what i can do with it
fish yes/no
mobile inverts yes/no
sessile inverts yes/no
return yes/no
other...................
Danyal
04-23-2008, 6:48 PM
fish for life- no. fry/tiny fish for a time- yes
mobile inverts- yes
sessile inverts- absolutely
return- no
a tank this small is going to be cheap and easy to set up

return- yes Ridicules..

see what i mean! i got two opposite answers. i propose a contest of fish keeping skill in each catagory. if thers a winner ill know who to ask
SpockthePuffer
04-23-2008, 9:20 PM
The majority of the answers seem to say "no"
I wouldn't put anything in it, you would probably have to top off more than once a day to make sure the sg didn't get crazy high. Having and iv drip like one poster suggested would take care of that though and in theory seems like a good idea. If you did do that I wouldn't put any fish, just LR and a shrimp
cam191919
04-23-2008, 9:34 PM
i might just put some plants in it like a mangrove and juat make it a little slice of the beach. but i still like that contest thing. someone should consider that.......................
Danyal
04-24-2008, 2:50 AM
how about plumb it into a sump, then you don't have to worry so much about instability when you're looking at a 1g vs an 11g
cam191919
04-25-2008, 6:10 PM
than why dont i just make an 11 gallon?

Setting up a 1G seems pretty expensive from what everyone is saying. I would stick with a .2 ant farm:

xD On a serious note, I would check out that forum area. There are some great pico masters there. Many have solved the top off issue in different ways.
