I bought 2 discus yesterday and 2day they are breathing a little fast about 3-4 gasps a second is that normal????

If it isnt could it be because something is stressing them a bit, i know that they are not ill because they are using both gills and have been wormed so they done have internal worms

thanks all

What size tank? What other tankmates?

pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate readings? GH/KH?

How did you acclimate them?

Isn't this the tank you just had african cichlids in...?

i restarted the hole tank which is 45 gallons

P.H 7
ammonia/nitrite 0.00
nitrate 2.5

tank mates Congos and corries, the congos are leaving soon just so you know

i put them in a container and put a cup full of water every 10 minutes, the discus were in the same conditions at the shop so i didnt think i would have to acclimate them as long as some people the PH'S were the same

2 is usually not a good number for discus... they really need to be in a group of 4-5 at minimum to help establish a pecking order and prevent any single fish from being picked on excessively. How long has this tank been established? Discus are very delicate fish, and require a lot of care. You might want to do some reading about them. (check out some of the threads on here, lots of great info) As much as you may like them, if you cannot provide the environment and care they need, I'd urge you to return the discus to the store you bought them at and purchase something else.

Edit: What temperature do you keep your tank at? What is your water change regime? Is this a planted tank? What kind of test kit did you use to test your water?
