Hi, I just joined (as evidenced by my presence in the Intro forum). When I was a wee little girl, I wanted to be a marine biologist when I grew up. Well, science proved not to be the right thing for me, but I still loved water animals of all types. I had a tank of tetras and swordtails as a kid, but when I lived on my own, I had neither the space nor responsibility level necessary for caring for another life form. Seriously, my pothos vine was the saddest thing ever, and it's the hardiest plant known to houseplant-hood.
But now I'm grown up with a steady job and decent living space. My pothos vine is happy as can be! My co-worker kept bugging me to take his fishtank and "immortal tetras" off his hands, so finally I did, and now I've got a tank full of tetras to test myself with. It turns out I can take care of other living creatures, and I'd like to continue doing so. Right now, I'm considering myself strictly a beginner until I'm sure I can keep up water changes and other basic care. So far, (three weeks in) I'm doing well.
My housemate and I were admiring my tank the other night, and she said she was glad I had it, because she got to enjoy it without having to care for it. I told her I felt exactly the same about her cat. I'm glad you don't have to take fish regularly to a vet for shots!
