I purchased 4 water hyacinth and 1 water lettuce today (duckweed hopped along for the ride home) to put in my pond with my goldfish and koi. I've read that the two plants have/or can develop pretty extensive root systems. Would the fish keep this under control or would I have to manually do so?

You would have to cut it on your own because the fish won't eat them. But its pretty easy.

my water lettuce roots seem to fall once they get long and start growing a new root

You fish will luv you for the Duckweed. They uv to eat it to clean out their intestines.

yes I did notice that the amount of duckweed decreased since yesterday (if every plant was side by side the duckweed would cover about 1/3 of my pond). It'll still be present though, as it hitches onto my water lettuce and 4 water hyacinths. I'm also growing some in a small tank with some aponogeton and water lily bulbs (the lymphaea kind i think? or is it nymphaea..?)
