I just got a Xenia frag about a week and a half ago and it looked great. 3 days ago it started to have a few dead (stalks?) sections. today most of it is dead any suggestions as to what might b causing it and what to do to save it?

Can you post water parameters, lighting setup and what other corals are near/next to it please...

Also high and low tank temps during the day. Xenia doesnt tend to do well when tank temps climb much at all.

a pic would be great too if you could. that way we can visualize the problem and offer more educated assistance ;)

Move it and feed it, along with knowing your water conditions. I have had xenia thrive, while others shrink and die a couple of inches away from each other on the same rock. Mine does while in flow that moves it around pretty well, but does not blast it completely sideways.

You can't "feed" Xenia. They rely on direct absorption for their nutritional needs, along with photosythesis.

i highly doubt that that particular xenia can be saved, from the way it sounds. sometimes xenias can be very picky and die after thriving for a long time or not do well and almost die and then start spreading like wild fire. however, it could be something obvious why your xenia is dieing.

I have fed my Xenia at different times - at least I thought I was feeding it. I shoot phyto (sp?) plankton at them and all the hands close up around it. I have also seen it grab flake food that floated in it's hands. My assumption was that it was feeding.

When I added a skimmer my xenia started dying, so I started squirting food at it every couple of weeks and now it is doing great.
