Hi folks,

I have been trying to find a crab for my new tank. Wonder if you have any suggestion. What I am looking or is:

1. Not growing too big (2-3")

2. Not TOO aggressive toward fish and coral. (I am willing to accept some losts but not a total cannae.)

3. Not disappearing into caves (If they gonna hide, I might as well let them do that in the occean. The "skunk shrimp of crab")

4. Not looking like a snail. ;-) .

Be prepared to open the can of "crab hating" worms on this one.:grinyes:

Personally I don't have a problem with crabs (no other way of re-phrasing it!!!). I have blue legs, red legs, zebra legs and 2 emerald crabs.

But if I could get the crab I wanted, it would be a porcelain crab!

Good to hear! Though usually not the first question I ask people... ;-)

It is that bad? I don't mind as long as the "hating" is not accidently directed toward me.

So PORCELAIN it is! do I hear a higher bidder?

I love my Porcelain crab, I was buying a very healthy Condy and he was attached to it and simply was not going to let go. So I bought him too.

He's been the easiest purely decorative thing in the tank to care for. Very neat little animal to watch too.

SOLD! porcelain is now the KING OF CRABS.

It appears everyone agree that if you have to get crab, this is the crab to get.

I totally agree about the porcelain crab. They rock. I have an emerald crab that I like alot and he hasn't been too rough on anybody yet. My second favorite crab after the porcelain is my caulerpa crab. I love him...always out in the open, always doing something entertaining...never hating on my coral or other inverts.

I've heard that because they anemone (pom pom crab?) is a type of decorator that he will hurt corals etc by trying to decorate with them. Is this true in your experience?

A pom pom crab isn't the same as an anemone crab. An anemone crab is a filter feeder like a porcelain crab is.

I love both the anemone and porcelain crabs I've had.

How much do porcelain crabs usually cost? I really would like to get a crab since I'm pretty much fully stocked on fish but I don't want to shell out a ton of money if my lovely little valentini puffer is going to try and munch on it!

I've seen them between $7 and $19.
