I have a 120g 2'x2'x4' glass aquarium and stand. Its not plumbed nor has the "spill over" area in the back of the tank that you see in the nice saltwater aquariums. What is the best way of converting this to a functional saltwater aquarium? Really would like to have is plumbed and have a sump/refugium underneath in the stand.

You can drill the tank for that and then install some glass of acrylic for the weir. You have to be sure your tank isn't tempered glass or the first scratch will shatter it. If this can't be ascertained then you can use an overflow system and avoid drilling.

any pictures or articles I can read? I don't know enough about it.

Most times its only the bottom that will be tempered, here is a link about drilling

I like how they sell all in one overflow box kits. Are they adequate though? On on the pre made SW tanks I have seen, the overflow take up the back of the tank or an entire corner where as these are just a little box. Also, they seem pretty expensive...

Tanks that are predrilled are drilled on the bottom before being tempered so the box goes from bottom to top with the kit I listed you drill the back of the tank so the small box is all thats needed. If you were to by a hangon overflow it would run you between $40-$120 I believe depending on the size so they are worth it to me, when I setup my 120 I will order one and do my tank.

does anyone have any experience with the overflow boxes on that site?
